Our throwaway economy generates an incalculable amount of waste on a yearly basis. Although most individuals recognise this problem, action is inefficient or secondary to consumer goals. The Nonliving Stakeholders project aims to counteract this culture of waste by perceiving objects as partners in the earth’s preservation. Employing speculative images, Nonliving Stakeholders shows how objects could demonstrate their entitlement to human rights. Furthermore, the project also proposes a system of ‘Climate Credit’, in which users are either penalised or rewarded for their ecological behaviour. Inspired by the Eastern worldview that both objects and humans are equal entities, the Nonliving Stakeholders project re-evaluates the relationship between consumption and waste.
